Reopening of School Plan for Distance Learning, On-site Staff, & On-site Daycare

03 | 16 | 2020

Dear TLC Families,
Thank you all once again for your support and cooperation as we have responded to the recent COVID-19 developments and the need to close TLC for the next two weeks. Teachers and staff were at TLC today preparing resources for students and making plans moving forward. We all miss the children and our regular school day, but we are committed to making sure our community remains healthy and well. Please see below for updates and schedules for resource pick-up at school:

Learning Packets: Teachers have prepared optional weekly learning packets for all students at TLC, and parents may come to the multi-purpose room (cafeteria) to pick up the learning packets anytime on Tuesday and Wednesday, 8:30 a.m. – 12:30 p.m. Students are not required to complete these packets during school closure, but we encourage families to continue learning if at all possible during the shutdown! We hope to provide as much consistency as possible for our students, and so the packets contain possible and suggested daily schedules, learning resources, and familiar activities from school. For any family not able to pick up a packet during these times, please contact the Main Office (657-284-5228) and we will make arrangements with you to make sure you receive the materials.

Chromebooks and Wifi Access: TLC will allow students to check out Chromebooks as needed to be able to access the digital learning resources we are providing during this time. Staff will have Chromebooks available for checkout when you pick up Learning Packets. We will also provide resources and help to make sure families can access Wifi if needed — please just let staff know so we can help.

Clementine Food Trolley: Please note that we will host Clementine this coming Friday, March 20 12:00 p.m. – 3:00 p.m.

Free and Reduced Lunch: This is a reminder that we will have grab-and-go options for breakfast and lunch throughout this week at TLC. Grab-and-go food will be available beginning at 8:30 a.m. each morning.

Ok — thanks to all once again! Teachers will reach out to families over the coming days and weeks to check in and make sure students are able to continue learning and growing…. and please also get in touch with us if there is any way we can be of additional help and support at this time.

Our best to each, every, and all, Dr. Tunney

Dear TLC Families,

I am writing to let you know that TLC Public Charter School will be closed starting Monday, March 16th  through Friday, March 27th.  This two-week closure will be followed by our planned Spring Break from March 30 – April 10. TLC’s school closure plan is consistent with surrounding districts in Orange County, and is supported by the Orange County Superintendent of Schools. Based upon the guidance we have received from health agencies and educational officials, we believe closing is an important precautionary measure we must take to ensure our community remains safe and healthy.

On Monday, TLC staff will work together to prepare learning resource packets for all students. Our goal is to provide as much consistency as possible so that students are able to continue learning and growing throughout the weeks of school closure and Spring Break. Please look for a communication from us on Monday afternoon with details about to how to access or pick up the resource packets.

Please note that we will provide access to meals for students who qualify for Free and Reduced Price Breakfast/Lunch.  On Monday, we will have breakfast available for pick-up from 8:30-9:30 a.m. and lunch will be available from 11:30 a.m. – 12:30 p.m.  If you have additional questions regarding our Free and Reduced Breakfast/Lunch program during the closure, please call the main office at 657-284-5228 so we can provide you with all information you need.

I cannot thank you all enough for your patience and cooperation over these last days and weeks. This is a challenging time for sure, and on behalf of the TLC staff I would like to express my gratitude for the TLC community.

Best to each, every, and all,

Dr. Tunney

Dear TLC Families,

I am writing with an update about recent guidance we have received from the California Department of Education (CDE) and the California Department of Public Health (CDPH) in regard to the coronavirus and related public health recommendations. As you know, TLC has been staying in close communication with the Orange Department of Education and other schools to make sure we have the most up-to-date information to share with you… thank you all so much for your diligence and cooperation as we work together to keep our community healthy during this time!

While the situation continues to evolve, local health officials say the risk to the general public remains low and there is no evidence of person-to-person transmission in Orange County. Because of this, TLC will continue employing the measures we already have in place to prevent the spread of illness, including: • disinfecting classrooms and wiping down tables each day • ensuring that all students wash or sanitize their hands frequently throughout the school day • practicing “respiratory etiquette” by covering coughs with a tissue or sleeve • encouraging students and staff to stay home when sick

On Friday, March 7, the CDPH and CDE issued additional guidance recommending that schools prepare plans for potential scenarios in the event there are cases of community transmission in Orange County or within local schools. We are preparing the recommended plans at this time. Currently, there is no guidance of additional actions we need to take at TLC, but we do ask that all families please make sure you have full access to communications from school! Our primary formats for communication include: notes home, Aeries messaging, and the TLC website. If you have difficulty accessing any of these sources, please call the office immediately to let us know (657-284-5228) and we will make sure we are able to reach you.

Once again, my sincere gratitude for the support and cooperation with these efforts! It is a huge help for our community.
Best to each, every, and all,

Dr. Tunney
