Monica Mendez

Ms. Mendez is Vice-President and Service Manager at Citizens Business Bank in Orange, California. She brings 22 years of Banking and Management Experience and a Bachelor of Science in Business Management from Hope International University to the TLC Board of Directors. Over the past 10 years Ms. Mendez has served and been active in various community activities and organizations in the City of Orange. Ms. Mendez is a mother of 3, all of whom attend or attended schools within Orange Unified School District. Her oldest child is currently serving in the United States Navy.

Michal Doesburg

Michal Kay Doesburg taught in the public school system covering 26 years, and taught in her own education business for 5 years. Recently retired, Michal is working with one student in Orange Unified’s Home Hospital Program. She holds a lifetime teaching credential, taught in high school as well as in elementary general education. She achieved a credential and masters in Mild Moderate Special Education and finished her career teaching in special education and supervising student teachers for Chapman University’s Education Department. She and her husband have 2 children and 5 grandchildren.

Dr. Susan Toma-Berge

Dr. Toma-Berge is responsible for supporting student teachers at UCI, including interviewing potential candidates and placing them in student teaching settings and monitoring students’ fieldwork and coursework. For 10 years she also has been a lecturer in the School of Education, focused on teaching practice. As the program coordinator at UCI, she works directly with UCI faculty to support program alignment to the CA Teacher Performance Expectations and CTC Program Standards. She participates in the hiring of program faculty and recruitment efforts for potential students. Dr. Toma-Berge has built partnerships with local school administrators to provide her candidates with opportunities to develop their teaching. She previously worked for the CalStateTEACH program as a lecturer and supervisor of student teachers for seven years. Her career began in the Los Angeles Unified School District (LAUSD) as a bilingual elementary school teacher for students acquiring English. Dr. Toma-Berge has charter school governance experience through her service on the Board of Director of the Journey Charter School in Capistrano Unified School District (CUSD). As the Board secretary and later, Vice President, she advised the school director on decisions related to budget, staffing, curriculum and operations.

Dr. Amy Hanreddy

Dr. Amy Hanreddy

Dr. Hanreddy teaches courses related to inclusive and collaborative educational practices that benefit all students, as well as classes specifically designed for candidates in the moderate to severe Special Education Credential program at CSUN. Dr. Hanreddy is particularly interested in strategies that allow students with significant disabilities access to meaningful instruction in academic (core) content in the context of typical (general education) settings. Dr. Hanreddy has been a (National Board Certified) special education teacher in a traditional school district and at CHIME SCS, where she also served as the Director of Curriculum and Instruction for three years and as the Interim Executive Director from 2010-2011. In her administrative roles, Dr. Hanreddy maintained responsibility for hiring and negotiation of contracts with teachers and related service providers, for selection and procurement of curriculum, for oversight of the quality of the instructional program of the school, and for the evaluation of staff. In her role as the Interim Executive Director at CHIME SCS, she was also responsible for forecasting and maintaining the school’s annual budget, collaborating with and supporting the work of the Board of Directors, and making adjustments to school staffing and programs to maintain a balanced budget. Dr. Hanreddy has presented at state, national, and international conferences on topics related to inclusive education and meeting the needs of students with moderate to severe disabilities, special education in charter schools, and collaborative service delivery. She is also the former co-president of Cal-TASH, a statewide disability advocacy organization. She has served as the Project Coordinator for two million-dollar grants and also has worked as a grant evaluator. Dr. Hanreddy earned her Ph.D. in Education with an emphasis in Disability Studies from Chapman University, where she was awarded James L. Doti Outstanding Graduate Student in 2013.

Ronald Gomez

Ronald (“Ronnie”) Gomez is the General Counsel for California State University, Bakersfield and a member of California State University’s Office of General Counsel. He also serves as a CSU system-wide resource attorney on matters relating to disability/ADA, legislation, and bonds. Before joining the CSU, Ronnie was a senior associate in the Litigation Department at Gibson, Dunn & Crutcher LLP, where he represented domestic and international companies in high profile disputes in federal and state courts.  At Gibson Dunn, Ronnie had a diversified litigation practice focused on high stakes, complex commercial cases, with an emphasis in employment, intellectual property, contract disputes, and securities.  Ronnie also advised and counseled clients on a variety of matters, including data privacy, personnel policies, and internal investigations.  Ronnie was also actively involved in pro bono representations, including matters involving education, immigration, and civil rights.
